Followed instructions to the letter for four wire heating/cooling system. Does not work. According to 2 other online reviews, this product has several issues. Buy Honeywell. Don’t waste your time.

My system is a 4 wire electric heating and cooling system. It has a default jumper on the back for gas, slightly annoying. But once it was connected for the system it did do most of what it says. The temperature is easy to set for “override” but setting the time yourself (programmable) has not jumped out on how to do it. Yes I am sure it is in the manual, but something like this really should be pretty clear on screen how to set it up. But that aside and the reason I am not bothering to look into it is there are 2 major problems (at least for what I expect)

    1. The system does not auto switch from Heat and Cool, the bottom left swtich when you open the panel has Cool-Off-Heat, seems to defeat some of the purpose behind a touch screen.

    2. The box says it does power usage monitoring. I have tried scrolling through the options to find that and the closest thing I can find is the filter change that will let you know how many hours it ran. Not exactly what I would consider power usage monitoring.

I have seen other people with Honeywell and that is what I am getting next. The Honeywells look better and best I can tell, they are easier to work with.

Since we just purchased this thermostat, we can only give it a preliminary review. The screen is clear and the numbers are easily read by us old folks. We haven’t quite figured out how to use it but it has been rated by that “famous magazine” as easiest to use. We will let you know later. We do look forward to a reduced heating and cooling bill in the not so distant future.

One giant headache. I did everthing the instructions told me to do.

I labeled all the wires – all 8 of them. Got ready to install new Lux

but wiring diagrams didn’t match up. Called Lux’s Tech. Services for help, but no one there. I left a msg. Called my local air conditoning people -they said that I had a 2 stage heatpump. VERY IMPORTANT – TWO STAGE. Nowhere in the descriptions posted at Amazon does it mention NOT FOR TWO STAGE HEAT PUMPS. Nowhere on the package or instructions did it say NOT FOR TWO STAGE HEAT PUMPS. The Lux people did call back 4 hours later and said I needed the TX9100E. I’m chalking this one up to

experience. I hope this helps others. Do not buy this thermostat if you have a TWO STEP HEAT PUMP. The installation is not cut and dried. Call a heating & air Conditioning business that carries your brand of unit and

ask what type of unit do you have. Also be prepared to contact Lux’s

technical support for clarfication of wiring diagrams. Good Luck. (I gave

this a 3 – never got to see it in use but Consumer Reports gives it a

best buy. Conumers Report also does not tell you what you need to buy if you have a one stage heat pump or a two stage heat pump. Also a big

thank you to Jon Jon’s review. If you have an AUX Heat function – you have

a two stage heat pump. This was a valuable clue in solving my delemma.

    Pros:

    1) Consumer Reports highest rated thermostat.

    2) Very nice screen, easy to program.

    3) Good wiring instructions for most systems.

    4) I liked it so much I had my furnace rewired to make it work.

    Cons:

    1) Not compatible with Coleman 2-wire systems… I replaced a Coleman mechanical 2-wire thermostat with this LUX TX9000TS unit. The furnace has a heat/cool switch on the front of the furnace. When switched to “heat” the thermostat functions perfectly. When switched to “cool” the air conditioner runs continously and the thermostat won’t control it no matter how you try to wire it. LUX said “you can’t wire it to run a Coleman 2-wire system.” Even Coleman said “it can’t be done.”

    2) It was done!!! I liked the thermostat so much I had an electrician rewire it. He ran a new 4-wire hook-up from the furnace to the thermostat. He bypassed the “heat/cool” and the fans “continous/auto” switch on the furnace and rewired it to work. I would not recommend anyone attempt this but a qualified electrician. I assisted him in running the wires under the house and it took him and I 2:15 to rewire. He made numerous wiring changes in the furnace controls.

The thermostat is very nice. I was disappointed that LUX did not list this as being incompatible with Coleman systems on their website and I complained about that because I did do my research before purchasing it. I loved the thermostat but because this will cost me about $300 in total costs by the time it was rewired I rated it a “2.”

    Mike.
