CAUTION!!! I just wasted $100 on this thermostat. Be very careful that you also don’t waste your money! With the package trumpeting “easy to install” and the reviews on here talking about how easy it was, I started the installation process this evening after receiving the unit today. I followed the instructions step by step. Label the wires as you remove them from the old thermostat, the instructions tell me. The illustration shows four wires … mine had six. Didn’t tell me what to do about that. But it didn’t make sense to put an R label on the red wire and a W label on the white wire. I’m not color blind. So I remove the wires without labeling them. I turn to the next page of instructions to find out that the labels have nothing to do with the color of the wires and everything to do with the labels on the connection post which don’t necessarily correspond to the colors of the wires. Could they have told me that on the previous page??? Now I have no idea what wires go to what new posts … AND I have no idea how to reconnect the old thermostat! But I plow forward. The instructions now tell me that if I have a heat pump, I need to go to page 20, where I find out that it is even more complex and the “if this then that” combinations are more confusing than calculus. But I plunge forward, hoping to figure this out. Buried in the notes on page 23 – yes, page 23 – they tell you that if you have a W2 wire on your old thermostat, you need to call a qualified technician! Page 23! Call a qualified technician! Keep in mind that the instructions had me disconnect and remove the old thermostat on page 4! This thermostat is supposed to be easy to install. It is supposed to save me money. But I am left with no alternative than to reinstall the old thermostat. I took some big risks and rewired the old thermostat, making some guesses about what wire went to what connection post. Thankfully, it seems to work. This thermostat saved me NO money … it just wasted $100! Now let me see if I can find an HVAC technician that will even show up for less than $250 … oh yes, and find a day to take off work from my busy schedule to have it done. Thanks Honeywell for the “easy to install” thermostat!

This thermostat automatically changes between heating and cooling. In case you are wondering, this does NOT mean that you can set only one temperature. For example, I heat to 65′F but only cool to 78′F to save energy. It is easy to set these different temperatures on the thermostat. [C corrected to F]
Installation & programming were easy and the display is good though not high contrast. The instructions are unclear on the battery-free operation. These are minor complaints about a very good thermostat.

Programming this unit takes a bit of patience. You’ll constantly have to go back and make adjustments to get your temps where you want them. But once you’re set up, it works very well. Love that you can set the temp temporarily without screwing up the program.

Need I say more?
The manual is a little short on details, but the device’s intuitive simplicity is all one needs. I installed two without any problems whasoever.

This thermostat was very easy to install, very easy to set up, and has worked flawlessly since I replaced my old mercury thermostat a week ago. I would highly recommend this unit.
